In 1955, after graduating from junior high school, he was admitted to the purple sand craft learning class of Shushan Ceramic Production Cooperative and learned the purple sand molding technique from Gu Jingzhou. In 1960, he was selected and sent to the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts for further study. In 1964, he followed Gu Jingzhou to create and design purple clay in the research room of purple clay craft factory. After 1970, he borrowed from the purple clay factory research room to Yixing Ceramics Company to organize and assist the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts in organizing the 1975 – 1976 Jiangsu Ceramic Art Design Training Course in Yixing. In 1978, he was transferred back to Zisha Craft Factory as the technical section chief. Since 1981, he has successively served as the deputy director and director of Zisha Craft Factory. Since the founding of New China, Gao Haigeng, the first generation purple clay artist in New China, who was trained by old artists, has played a great role and made important contributions to the restoration, revitalization and development of Yixing purple clay. |
