Here we have an exceptional antique Qing Dynasty (1644-1912 AD) hand carved natural untreated shoushan stone with gilded decorations depicting Avalokiteshvara the Bodhisattva of compassion.
The statue has beautiful incised then gilded decorations which continue to the base. The detail of the carving of the natural stone is exquisite. The shoushan stone is a greenish yellow in color that varies to yellow in places. This rare natural untreated stone is translucent in places catching the light beautifully. Here and there delicate natural inclusions to the rare stone can be seen which are beautiful. There is a modern carved wooden base accompanying this genuine antique Qing Dynasty statue. This exceptional statue is intact and without repair. With the base it measures 10 3/16" tall by 5 15/16" wide by just over 4" deep (258mm x 150mm x 102mm). The statue without the base measures 8 11/16" tall by 4 3/4" wide by 2 13/16" deep approximately (221mm x 120mm x 71mm). An Appraisal Report is included with your purchase.
